A podcast about how to act right

Anonymous asked: Just thought I'd mention that y'all adds a distinct second person plural. Not the most classy sounding word, but I hear a lot of "What are you guys up to?" here, which my more particular friends take as sexist when there's mixed company. I guess it depends which bugs y'all more, the proper english, or an unconscious sexist term that people take as acceptable.

This is precisely why I like “y’all” and wish it were a nationwide phenomenon! Other languages have a second-person plural, and there are so many times it comes in handy. I admit to using “you guys” pretty constantly, which is problematic. When I hear “you guys” I hear a gender-neutral phrase, but if I refer to “a guy,” I exclusively mean a man. Frustrating.

Thanks for the comment!

ferociousj asked: I have two validations and a question: (1) I do what Holly does with Google Calendar, too, (2) I don't get the Mall Sweats, but I definitely have an LD50 for malls that kicks in after about an hour (sometimes less). My question is: are those crickets I hear in the background during the last episode, or am I going crazy? This isn't a lame dig at either of you -- I swear I hear crickets chirping, especially towards the end!

HA. Those are the peepers that live in my (Holly’s) yard. It was so warm out that I had the windows open, and I’m so used to them that I didn’t even notice it until playback. You’re not crazy - it’s the majestic sounds of nature. ;)

A Nerd of Advice Episode 16: Herd Those Cats

We’re back from our long TCAF-induced hiatus! In this episode, we talk about organizing get-togethers with multiple friends, the double-edged sword of “reply all,” and then Holly goes into a fugue state talking about her color-coded calendars. Enjoy!

Anonymous asked: hello there! I just encountered you all and was excited to start at episode 1, small talk, but it does not seem to be available on itunes. It´s quite possible that I´m just technologically challenged, but maybe you could look into it? Thanks! And I´ll start with episode 2 in the meantime I guess... sighhhhh...

Hm! I don’t know why it’s not showing up on iTunes. However, you can get it from Firecasting! Here’s the link to all of our episodes. I hope this helps!
